Campus Crime

(CONTENT WARNING - Discussion of sexual assault)

The University of Wisconsin - Madison issued a crime warning on September 28th after receiving reports of two separate incidents involving possible drugging and sexual assault. According to the warning, both incidents involved off-campus fraternity houses. The university shared the information with students to make them aware of the reported incidents and encourage them to take safety precautions.

The first incident reportedly occurred during the night of Sept. 26th into the morning of Sept. 27th. A victim told UW that they may have been drugged while at an off-campus fraternity house and later reported being touched inappropriately at two different fraternity houses. This incident was also reported to the Madison Police Department. The university did not identify the fraternities involved.

The second report involved an incident from Sept. 17th. The victim reported that they may have been drugged at an off-campus fraternity house before later being sexually assaulted in a residence hall on the southeast side of campus. UW said the victim and suspect knew each other. Unlike the first report, this incident was not reported to police, so there is currently no active police investigation.

UW - Madison reminded students that sexual assault and other forms of violence are prohibited by university policy. The university also provided resources for students who experience or witness sexual violence, including confidential support through University Health Services and reporting options through UW Police. UW explains that crime warnings are sent when certain crimes represent an ongoing threat to the campus and community.
